Spruce Up Spring Cleaning with [yellow tail] Reserve
By: Christine Trice of OMG I So Need a Glass of Wine with help from Karri Grant, Image and Wardrobe Consultant
Spring is my absolute favorite season. Something about the budding trees and all the new growth inspires me to get a fresh start inside my house. I love when everything is sparkling and spotless, but I don’t “love” the process of getting it that way. Being that my magic wand is in the shop, I decided to combine a few of my favorite things to tackle the one thing in my house that I’ve been avoiding – my bedroom closet (insert horrific screams…)!
Luckily I have a very good friend who is a professional wardrobe consultant and part of her “genius” is closet makeovers. So I invited Karri over along with a few of my BFF’s for a fun afternoon of music, wine and girl talk. My hopes were that I could trick my friends into cleaning out my closet for me as long as I kept their wine glasses full, but they were onto my master plan before I even popped the cork on the first bottle of [yellow tail] Reserve Chardonnay!
Still, good times were had by all and I actually learned a few very useful things from Karri. Did you know that we only wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time? Totally makes sense because I feel like I wear the same outfit constantly and never have anything else to wear! So Karri gave us five easy solutions to ease our wardrobe woes:
- Purge all items over 5 year – unless high designer/high quality item. Many fabrics can’t/don’t last in color, structure and wear.
- Make items easy to see/reach. Shoes in clear boxes/stacked, necklace/earrings on cork boards, scarves/belts on hooks, purses stuffed w/ tissue and stacked. If you don’t readily see them, you won’t wear them.
- Keep closet clean – similar plastic/felt hangers, good lighting, full length mirror.
- Place liked type items together – sweaters, shells, skirts, slacks – placed in each area. This allows for easy mix-match each morning.
- Rotate clothes front to back to keep you wearing ALL clothes – maybe create look book of complete outfits as visual reference and easy rotation.
I was pleased to hear that Karri picks up most of her closet organizing pieces at discount stores like the 99 Cent Store, Target, IKEA, etc. and simply uses the designer closet companies and magazines to get ideas. I couldn’t possibly allow a deep pocket spring cleaning project impact my wine budget!
We worked with the power of four that day. Four friends, a few bottles of [yellow tail] Reserve and hours of much needed girl therapy. Happy to report that my closet is doing much better and should be fully rehabbed after I install a few more hooks for purses and scarves and maybe a pegboard for belts & jewelry.
